The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has a lower price than the Tesla Model Y, and it’s Hyundai’s first completely electric sedan. It’s faster than the Tesla, and it has a longer range. However, the Model Y has more power. At Dublin Hyundai in Dublin, California, we want to provide you with some additional information about these vehicles and how they differ from each other.

Style and Design 

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 and the Tesla Model Y both have sleek, sporty profiles. The IONIQ 6 has a rectangular grille with active grille shutters, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 18-inch wheels with unique hubcaps, and heated side mirrors with turn signals. The Hyundai symbol is on the hood, above the grille. The Model Y comes with a curved upper grille and a rectangular lower grille. Both vehicles have sculpted sides, sculpted hoods, rear spoilers, daytime running lights, automatic high beams, and angular headlights.

With the IONIQ 6 sedan, you can choose from the SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, or Limited trim levels. The hands-free smart trunk opens automatically when you stand next to it with the proximity key for three seconds. It has 5.6 inches of ground clearance, and the Limited comes with a sunroof and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The Model Y compact SUV looks much like a sedan and can carry seven people. It has 76 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. A third row is optional, and you can select from the Performance, Long Range, or Rear-Wheel-Drive trims. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard, but you can upgrade to 20- or 21-inch wheels. A trailer hitch is optional, and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The Model Y also comes with fog lights, memory settings for the manually folding side mirrors, a panoramic moonroof, and 6.8 inches of ground clearance.

Performance 

The Tesla Model Y provides 425 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, and the base rear-wheel-drive trim has a 260-mile range. Its top speed is 135 mph, and it can reach 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. The Performance reaches 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and it can travel 303 miles. Its top speed is 155 mph. The Long Range takes 4.8 seconds to get to 60 mph, and it can go 330 miles between charges.

The Hyundai IONIQ 6’s SE Standard Range engine generates 149 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It has rear-wheel drive and a 240-mile range, and you can use commercial fast-charging stations with it. It can go from a 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes, so charging is quick and easy. Eco, Normal, Snow, and Sport driving modes are available, and regenerative braking and paddle shifters for the steering wheel are standard. 

With the SE, you can choose all-wheel drive and a 316-mile range or rear-wheel drive and a 361-mile range. All-wheel drive generates 320 hp, and rear-wheel drive gives 225 hp. 

Safety 

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 and the Tesla Model Y both have advanced safety features, including:

The Model Y has a low center of gravity to help prevent rollovers, and the warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles. 

The IONIQ 6’s warranty lasts for five years or 60,000 miles, and it has a drivetrain warranty and battery coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles. You’ll also get roadside assistance for five years and unlimited miles and anti-perforation coverage for seven years and unlimited miles. The Safe Exit Warning system produces a warning sound if a vehicle approaches when a passenger leaves the car. Blind-spot collision avoidance is standard with the SEL and the Limited, and parking collision avoidance comes with the Limited.

The Tesla Model Y has more impressive safety features than the IONIQ 6, and it received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick+.

Technology 

Both of these vehicles have advanced technology and convenient features. The IONIQ 6 comes with the following: 

  • An eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar settings.
  • Heated front seats.
  • Folding rear seats.
  • Air vents for the rear seats.
  • A 12.3-inch touch screen.
  • SiriusXM satellite radio.
  • Android Auto.

The SEL and the Limited have ambient lighting in 64 colors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a universal garage door opener. The Limited includes ventilated front seats with memory settings, a Bose premium audio system, and a heated steering wheel.

The Model Y comes with a 15-inch touch screen and a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It has a heated steering wheel, which is only optional with the IONIQ 6. The Tesla Mobile App lets you unlock or lock the doors, check your charging status, schedule service, use navigation, and monitor power flow from solar panels with your smartphone.
