Whether you’re taking a long road trip through California or sitting in traffic during a busy commute, sometimes the last thing you want to do is make an unscheduled stop at the gas station. You need a vehicle that can take you the farthest distance without needing to fill up the tank. Luckily, there are no wrong choices when it comes to Hyundai vehicles. While some models may be better than others regarding their miles per gallon, each offers a great distance.

Which Hyundai Cars Offer the Best Miles per Gallon?

Whenever automakers come out with new vehicles, one of the features they focus on is offering the best fuel economy. These manufacturers know how much car owners want to avoid constantly heading to the gas station to put more money into their vehicles. Plus, if you’ve driven anywhere near a gas station lately, you likely have noticed the sharp rise in fuel prices. Perhaps the price increase has negatively affected your budget and caused you to cut back on other expenses.

When shopping for your next Hyundai vehicle, you should get one that offers the best bang for your buck. While having a vehicle with plenty of infotainment options, a plush cabin, and a spacious cargo area is nice, you might want to focus on models that provide you with the most miles per gallon. For its current lineup of 2023 vehicles, Hyundai offers plenty of outstanding fuel-efficient options. Whether you’re looking for a fully electric vehicle, a plug-in electric and gas hybrid, or a gasoline-powered car, Hyundai has plenty of options.

We’ve provided a list of Hyundai vehicles that offer the best miles per gallon. Keep in mind that other trim levels might offer different EPA fuel economy ratings. We’ve only provided numbers for sedans and crossover SUVs; larger SUVs aren’t included.

Gas vs. Electric

While gasoline-powered vehicles are often the preferred mode of transportation, electric vehicles are increasing in popularity as more people want to get better miles per gallon. Updated technology and new features have improved the farthest distance many electric vehicles can go on a full charge. Although you might believe electric vehicles have better overall fuel economy, they don’t necessarily go the furthest distance compared to gasoline-powered ones.

According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 6 has the third-longest driving range of an electric vehicle on a full charge. When fitted with the larger 77.4 kWh battery, this brand-new sedan provides an EPA-estimated 361 miles on a full charge. As the brand’s newest electric vehicle, the IONIQ 6 achieves such an impressive number thanks to several aerodynamic design tricks, including a low drag coefficient, a spoiler with a winglet, and reduced wheel-arch gaps. The 2023 KONA, a small SUV, has an EPA-estimated 258-mile driving range on a full charge.

Consider a plug-in hybrid vehicle if you’re looking for the best of both worlds. These types of vehicles use a battery-powered motor along with a gasoline-powered engine. They can go all-electric for a shorter time compared to those that are entirely electric, but they can then travel in hybrid mode. The 2023 IONIQ 5 can go the furthest distance out of all Hyundai hybrid vehicles. With the single 77.4 kWh motor, this vehicle can go 303 miles on a single charge.

Hyundai ELANTRA

For a gasoline-powered vehicle, the 2023 Hyundai ELANTRA offers some of the best gas mileage in its class. This compact car, which has been a staple in the automaker’s lineup for more than three decades, received a complete redesign in 2021, and its updated features help the sedan achieve stellar numbers. This model’s best return comes from the SE trim and the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that uses a continuously variable automatic transmission to crank out 147 horsepower. This trim returns an EPA-estimated 33 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway.

Even its least fuel-efficient option — the ELANTRA N — gets decent mileage with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 276 horsepower. With this engine and a six-speed manual transmission, expect this sedan to achieve 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

Another ELANTRA option has a hybrid engine, and this vehicle attains even better fuel economy. U.S. News and World Report named the 2023 ELANTRA Hybrid as the 2023 Best Hybrid Car for the Money for its outstanding combination of quality and value.

This hybrid has some of the best gas mileage estimates in its class. The base model with the standard 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, electric motor, and six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission paired with front-wheel drive produces 139 horsepower. It gets you an EPA-estimated 53 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway. Even the top-of-the-line Limited trim achieves solid numbers with 49 mpg in the city and 52 mpg on the highway.
