Where to Charge Your Electric Vehicle in Dublin, CA

A charging station seen from the side plugged into its unit

As electric vehicles (EVs) become increasingly popular, the demand for accessible and convenient charging stations is rapidly growing. Dublin Hyundai is proud to be a part of this green movement by offering a variety of EVs and hybrids. To make life easier for our eco-conscious customers, we've compiled a guide on electric charging stations in Dublin, California.

What Are Electric Charging Stations?

Electric charging stations provide energy to recharge the battery of your EV or hybrid vehicle. There are four main types of connectors used at these stations:

J1772

The Level 2 J1772 connector is an industry standard adopted in North America and Japan. It's commonly found on most non-Tesla EVs and plug-in hybrids and offers a charging rate of seven to 19 kW. These charging stations take about four to 10 hours to charge a battery electric vehicle up to 80%. They're ideal for situations where you'll be parked for a long period, such as at shopping centers or if attending a nearby event.

Tesla Chargers

Tesla has a proprietary network of Superchargers exclusive to Tesla vehicles. Currently, non-Tesla EVs are unable to use the Supercharger network except for a few locations in New York and California.

CCS

CCS is an international standard that combines Level 2 AC charging with high-capacity DC fast-charging capabilities in one connector. This versatile system is increasingly becoming the preferred choice for car manufacturers, including Hyundai. These fast chargers are ideal for when you need to charge quickly, as many modern EVs can charge from 0% to 80% in 20 to 60 minutes.

CHAdeMO

CHAdeMO is a fast-charging protocol developed for the Japanese market. The main EV in the US using this charger is the Nissan Leaf. With so few EVs using this standard, Electrify America has publicly announced they are discontinuing support for CHAdeMO.

What Types of Electric Charging Stations Do Hyundai EVs Use?

Hyundai's latest EV models, such as the electric KONA, IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and any future EVs, come equipped with a CCS charging port that's also compatible with the J1772 connector. This type of charging system allows Hyundai owners to take advantage of Level 2 charging stations and DC fast chargers.
