As a result, this hybrid powertrain makes 226 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

While the hybrid powertrain doesn’t add towing capacity to the Tucson, it delivers thrilling driving dynamics and gets up to 38 mpg. In addition, every hybrid Tucson comes standard with HTRAC AWD.

Tucson’s plug-in hybrid uses the same 1.6-liter engine and six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission. However, Hyundai put in a larger 66.9-kW electric motor capable of producing 90 horsepower. As a result, the system generates 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

These improvements have led to longer driving ranges and faster charging times, two key factors once considered the EV’s Achilles’ heel. As a result, EVs have accounted for over 6% of automobile sales as recently as the third quarter of 2022.

Not coincidentally, the rise in popularity of EVs has led to a boom in new electric charging stations. Car owners concerned about driving range and the availability of public charging stations now have a plethora of options and convenient online tools to locate and pay for charging nearly everywhere. We asked our EV experts to create a list of local charging stations. If you live in Dublin and own or plan to buy an EV, this list will help you prepare for your daily commute and more extended getaways.

National Charging Networks

Currently, over 20 charging networks operate in the United States. The top five networks based on the number of locations and charging ports rank as follows:

• ChargePoint: 15,454 locations with a total of 48,946 ports.
• Tesla: 5,682 locations with 27,257 ports.
• SemaConnect: 1,908 locations with 5,802 ports.
• Blink: 1,416 locations with 3,312 ports.
• Electrify America: 851 locations with 3,264 ports.

You should know that non-networked charging stations total 5,872 locations with 12,412 ports, which would put them in the third position on our list. However, this catch-all category can be deceiving as non-networked charging stations can include home charging stations depending on the setup. In addition, you need to understand several other differences that have advantages and disadvantaged.

Non-networked charging stations can’t access the electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) portal, an online network of management tools that network stations use to list the location and sell you electricity. As a result, you may not find them as quickly as you would a networked station. However, non-networked stations don’t need to list on the EVSE because they can’t sell the electricity. Instead, they agree to let anyone who plugs in charge for free.

You’ll find these stations around Dublin and across the country, mainly by accident but sometimes not. For example, your favorite restaurant might install a non-networked charging station as a reward for guests. Or you could find one at the local grocery store or shopping mall, established with the same intent, adding value for your patronage. Even non-retail businesses have started installing charging stations as an added employee benefit. Most companies, retail or otherwise, promote this added service on their website or via inter-office communications.

We recommend that you check your favorite public places to see if they have non-networked charging, which can save you a lot of money. Imagine driving to the grocery store, then the mall, the gym, and finally, dinner at your favorite pub and being able to charge at each location. And for free. You might never need to charge at home.

Dublin Charging Networks

New charging stations open every year. According to Plugshare, 22 new stations opened within the last 90 days of this writing in Dublin alone. Based on their list, you have a total of 80 public charging stations, 27 of which have the supercharging capability, 32 with fast charging, and eight free stations. We recommend you check the list for locations and details on the types of charging you can expect at each station.

However, ChargeHub.com, another popular online charging station guide, reports slightly different numbers. According to them, Dublin has 71 charging stations, 12 of which provide free charging. As you can see, reporting differs depending on your platform and how often the site updates its list. Therefore, intelligent drivers do their research before venturing out.

Most online guides have a comment section where drivers submit information regarding their experience, damaged or broken units, and other perks or issues. In addition, these sites often have a map feature that lists locations and links to driving directions.
